3.0 TECHNICAL REVISION -TAILING DELIVERY LINE
Tailing delivery and deposition for the Climax 2010 mine startup will utilize the existing Tenmile
Tailing Storage Facility (TSF). A replacement tailing delivery line (TDL) will be installed from the
Mill discharge sump to the Tenmile TSF. The TDL will generally follow the existing East Tailing
Delivery Line (ETDL) route. Tailing will be deposited utilizing the upstream deposition method by
operation of a header and spigot system along the dam crest. The deposition system will incorporate
rotational upstream deposition through relatively short spigots along the dam crest during the warmer
months and single-point leadoff deposition into the TSF pond during the colder months.
A new 36-inch diameter high-density polyethylene (HDPE) TDL will be installed from the Mill to the
Tenmile TSF, which will generally follow the existing ETDL route. The existing 42-inch diameter
reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) TDL will be rehabilitated and utilized to convey tailing from the
Tenmile TSF to the Mayflower TSF. There are 22 existing drop structures in the pipeline route where
the line is supported by steel stusses between the hillside and the drop structures.
For initial tailing deposition, a starter deposition berm will be constructed along the dam crest.
Approximately 2.5 years of tailing production (26 million tons) will initially be deposited on Tenmile at
which time deposition will move to the Mayflower TSF. The existing ETDL will continue to be
utilized to convey the impacted water sources to the Sludge Densification Plant (SDP) and will also
serve as an emergency tailing conveyance line should the main delivery line from the Mill to the first
discharge point~'have to be taken out of service for a short period.
Proposed TDL construction details are illustrated on Figures 1 through 1 I below.
