May 2005 -5• 053-2386
4.0 TESTING PROGRAM
Liner load tests were conducted on the following liner configurations:
• Amendment No. 7 and 8 (Phase III and IV) OSA Liner System was tested to a
maximum equivalent ore depth of approximately 1,110 feet, reported as Test #1.
The OSA Liner System consisted of the following (from top to bottom):
0 DCF;
0 80 mil LLDPE, single-sided textured geomembrane; and
0 SLF.
• Amendment No. 8 (Phase IV) PSSA Liner System was tested to a maximum
equivalent ore height of approximately 880 feet, reported as Tests 42 and #3..
The PSSA Liner System consisted of the following (from top to bottom):
o DCF;
0 100 mil LLDPE, smooth geomembrane; and
o LVSC Fill.
• Amendment No. 6 (Phase I and II) OSA Liner System was tested to a maximum
equivalent ore height of approximately 880 feet, reported as Test 44. The OSA
Liner System consisted of the following (from top to bottom):
o DCF;
0 80 mil VLDPE, single-sided textured geomemb-ane; and
0 SLF.
4.1 Test #1- Phases III and IV OSA Liner System
The test sample was assembled using approximately four inches of SLF in the bottom of the cell,
compacted to a target density of 95 percent of the maximum standard Proctor dry density at plus or
minus two percent of the optimum moisture content. The maximum standard Proctor density for the
soil is 114.6 pounds per cubic foot (pcf) with optimum moisture content of 13.1 percent. The SLF
was compacted to a dry density of 96.6 percent at a moisture content of 12.0 percent. Next, a 12-inch
diameter piece of 80-mil single-sided textured LLDPE geomembrane was placed on top of the SLF
material, textured side down. Finally, the DCF material was placed in four lifts on top of the liner to
a thickness of approximately 9.4 inches. The thickness of SLF and DCF placed in the load cell is not
representative of field conditions, but does provide "worst case" loading as the thin DCF layer will
X77
avstobott?.ea Golder Associates
