•
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Cripple Creek & Victor Mining Company (CC&V) currently operates the Cresson Project,
a gold mining and processing operation in the Cripple Creek Mining District (the District)
located near the cities of Cripple Creek and Victor, Colorado, in the mountains west of
Colorado Springs, Colorado. A site location map is provided in Figure 1.1.
CC&V is proposing to extend mining in the existing Main Cresson, East Cresson, and
the North Cresson mines and extend the areal extent of the existing Valley Leach
Facility (VLF). This proposed Mine Life Extension (MLE) will produce approximately 110
million tons of additional gold-bearing ore and approximately 250 million tons of
overburden (non-economic rock). The additional ore will be processed in an extension of
the VLF. Overburden resulting from mining activities in these extension areas will be
placed into portions of the existing Main Cresson Mine, East Cresson Mine, and North
Cresson Mine as mine backfill, or will be placed for storage in the existing Squaw Gulch
Overburden Storage Area (SGOSA), an extension of the SGOSA, or the new East
Cresson Overburden Storage Area (ECOSA).
This report presents historical surface water and groundwater monitoring data, describes
existing surface water and groundwater conditions, and presents the predicted surface
water and groundwater conditions due to the proposed MLE. This report also presents
design criteria for extension facilities, as appropriate, to minimize potential hydrologic
impacts.
The evaluation has been divided into two areas: the main project area and the Grassy
Valley drainage. The "main project area" contains all of the current mining facilities and
most of the proposed activities related to the proposed MLE. The proposed new
ECOSA and the Wildhorse Extension (WHEX) portion of the East Cresson surface mine
will be located in the Grassy Valley drainage.
This report is organized as follows:
• Section 1.0, Introduction -Summarizes the scope and objectives of the report
and provides a description of the proposed MLE activities.
• Section 2.0, Site Description - Provides a description of the project location and
summarizes the physical characteristics of the project site.
• Section 3.0, Main Project Area Hydrologic Conditions - Presents a general
overview of the hydrologic and hydrogeologic conditions in the drainages of the
main project area. The hydrologic monitoring program for the main project area
is described and data summaries are presented.
2736
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Water Management Consultants
