VERHOEFF PIT # 2
Exhibit D:
The method of mining will be open pit as previously done. All of the haul roads
and access roads are already in place. topsoil and overburden stockpiles are
segregated in separate piles in the south portion of the mine site; these have not
been disturbed. A front-end loader will be used to dig the material, load it into
trucks where it will be hauled out for use as road materials on county roads.
Earth moving will be accomplished with afront-end loader.
All mining will be done above ground water tables and floodplain so no water
resources will be affected by the operation. surface runoff will be almost
nonexistent in this area due to the permeability of the soil and the topography
and layout of the mine site.
The size of the area to be mined at any one time will be about 5-10 acres. As
this material is used up then the area will be expanded.
Bent County hopes this expansion will produce materials for approximately 30
years.
Please refer to the map in Exhibit C_ The topsoil material will be salvages to a
depth of 4-6 inches, or more if found in pickets of deposits typical for this area.
The topsoil will be stockpiled in an orderly berm. There will be no additional
overburden ore waste rock at the site. The topsoil layer is very thin in many
areas on the site with some gravel exposed on the surface. Mining will be to a
depth of 6 to 15 feet, depending on how the deposit lays.
The primary commodities are sand and gravel with no secondary commodities.
The intended use if for county road maintenance.
No explosives will be used.
J~
