Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald Vd. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33,
Section 1 16, Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on April 24, 2008, an application to revise coal
mining operations at the Bowie No. 1 Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was
submitted by Bowie Resources, LLC. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations
initiate from this date of filing.
Bowie Resources Limited is proposing to drill two exploration holes. The project will involve upgrading
approximately 1.7 miles of light use road and construction of 0.1 miles of new road and two drill pads. The new
and upgraded light use roads and two drill pads will disturb approximately 3.9 acres. ~ Reclamation will consist of
restoring the drill pads, narrowing the upgraded road, reclaiming the new road and seeding.
The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 3 miles north of Paonia, Colorado. The
permit area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 1, 2, 10-15, 22-25, Township 13 South, Range 92 West of the 6th P.M.
Portions of Sections 5-8, 17-19, 29 and 30, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
Because the above referenced technical revision application would incorporate additional lands into the permit
area or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are requesting
your agency's evaluation of the proposal. Your comments and concerns relating to the adequacy of fish and
wildlife resources information, the fish and wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as it relates to fish and wildlife
considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, are requested.
The applicant is required to publish notice in a local newspaper that this application has been deemed complete.
At the time of publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to place a copy of this application at
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver Grand Junction Durango Active and Inactive Mines
