•
C
•
3.0 BACKGROUND OF THE APPLICANT
The Cresson Project continues to be a joint venture between AngloGold Ashanti
(Colorado) Corp. and Golden Cycle Gold Corporation. This joint venture is designated
CC&V. AngloGold Ashanti (Colorado) Corp. is the Manager of the joint venture and
operates the site.
CC&V has operated in the District since 1976. CC&V and its operations have directly
and indirectly benefited the District and the communities of Cripple Creek, Victor, and
Goldfield. In addition to the direct benefits of employment and payment of wages,
benefits, and taxes, CC&V has provided support to many community activities.
CC&V has an excellent track record in environmental management and safety. CC&V
implemented a formal Environmental Management System in 2006 for managing
environmental issues throughout the mine site. This comprehensive system was certified
by Orion Registrar, Inc. USA as compliant with the International Standards Organization
("ISO") 14001:2004 standards on December 22, 2006. ISO is recognized as the world's
leader in development of international standards through national standards institutes in
157 countries. ISO is a nongovernmental organization with both public and private sector
members. CC&V recently completed the first annual surveillance audit under this
program and was recommended for continued certification on November 15, 2007.
In 2006, CC&V was awarded the 2006 Colorado Department of Public Heath and
Environment Bronze Environmental Achievement Award in the State's Environmental
Leadership Program, which recognizes the voluntary and significant environmental
achievements of Colorado businesses and organizations. CC&V received this award as
a result of the high level of dedication and commitment to public health and the
environmental that is displayed in our community based programs, waste minimization
projects and voluntary clean-up projects.
During 2007, the cyanide management systems at CC&V were audited for conformance
with the .voluntary International Cyanide Management Code ("Code") administered by
the International Cyanide Management Institute ("ICMI"). The Code was developed by a
multi-disciplinary stakeholder process spearheaded by the United Nations that identifies
world-wide best practices. AngloGold Ashanti voluntarily became a signatory to the
Code with each of its owned or managed operations needing to be audited by an
independent third party certified by the ICMI. CC&V was found to be fully compliant
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension
3-1
