Overgrazing with cattle will result in western
wheatgrass, green needlegrass, big bluestem, mountain
mutely, switchgrass, Griffith wheatgrass, Indian
ricegrass, little bluestem, sideoats grama, muttongrass
fourwing saltbush and winterfat will decrease in the
plant community. Blue grama,.prairie junegrass, sun
sedge, bottlebrush squirreltail, and Sandberg bluegrass
will increase. Overgrazing with sheep wiii cause
slimflower scurfpea, scarlet globemallow, rose
pussXtoes, fringed sagebrush, and green plume
rabbltbrush to decrease. With further deterioration of
the site blue grama, prairie.junegrass, sun sedge,
bottlebrush squirreltail, and Sandberg bluegrass will
disappear and be replaced b}~ red threeawn and sand
dropseed. These grasses, with continued destructive
grazing, will be invaded by sleepy grass, ring mutely,
buffalo grass, and cheatgrass. The forb and shrub
species which will, at first signs of regression
increase and under further deterioration decrease are
Drummond milkvetch, western ragweed and dotted
gayfeather. Continued ecological regression will cause
plants such as wormwood, hairy goldaster, plains
pricklypear, broom snakeweed small soapweed, gray
horsebrush, pinque hxcnenoxxs gamble oak, oneseeded
juniper Rocky Mountain juniper, pinyon pine, tall
rabbitbrush, and New Mexico locust to dominate the site
P~.~~
