Stormwater Management Controls
Various Stormwater management controls have been in place since the historic mining activities
took place. A significant number of these historic features are effective and will remain in place.
Others (such as the Stormwater containment basin) will be enhanced in order to accommodate
predicted flow conditions. A summary of the best management practices to be used within the
permitted area of the mine site are as follows;
• Water bars will be used to divert stormwater flows away from the ore pad, roads, and on
site facilities.
• Bar ditches along the county road to control stormwater flows and eliminate erosion of
soils.
• Stormwater containment basin (lined with blue clay in order to retain water for
evaporation) will collect combined flows from the site features thereby eliminating any
offsite runoff.
• Reclamation of disturbed areas will be an ongoing practice during mining activities in
order to minimize the amount of exposed surface area. Disturbed ground will be covered
with retained top soil and reseeded using BLM approved seed mixes.
• Soil generation areas will be created to increase the amount of useable topsoil for
reclamation efforts.
a.
