b. Identification of Potential Pollutant Sources and Best Management Practices <br />The Mine Site will be prepared for future mining activity with the clearing of surface area for <br />work surfaces, stockpiling of topsoil, excavation of Stormwater containment basins and <br />placement of storage/equipment facilities. The most likely pollutant source is sediment given <br />the site setting and types of activities to be conducted. <br />The site preparation activities can create sediment as a pollutant source. In order to control <br />this pollution, the site will be prepped with the features shown within the attached Figure 1 <br />and summarized above in subsections 2 and 3. The overland flow dynamics are well <br />understood and were used as the basis for the placement of the Stormwater containment <br />basins, berms etc. With this combination of proposed best management practices it is unlikely <br />that any overland flow of sediment will release from the site. Regardless, the site <br />management features will be continually monitored and maintained in order to control any <br />releases. <br />All other potential pollutant sources (hydraulic fluids, small amounts of fuel) will be stored <br />within the site facilities. All fuel tanks present will have secondary containment structures <br />sized as per EPA spill prevention, control, and countermeasures (SPCC) regulations. Any <br />spills created as a result of these fluids will be immediately managed, contained and cleaned <br />up. <br />The ore pad will be constructed in accordance with Colorado Division of Reclamation, <br />Mining, and Safety General Ore Pad Construction Criteria. <br />i. Stormwater Diversions <br />The following subsection describes the various Stormwater diversions to be constructed as part of <br />the site preparation activities. <br />Stormwater Containment Basin: A Stormwater containment basin will be constructed in the <br />northwest corner of the mine permit boundary (Figure 1). The Stormwater containment basin will <br />allow for significant water retention time and sediment settling. The Stormwater containment <br />basin will be lined with compacted clay in order to prevent infiltration. The stormwater <br />containment basin's capacity was engineered based on a 102,OOsq.ft. drainage area, a <br />25year/6hour/1.6" event (which equals 13,600cu.ft. of water volume, assuming no evaporation or <br />infiltration). Water within the Stormwater containment basin would be retained and evaporated <br />over time. <br />Water Bars, Berms and Bar Ditches: Bar ditches will be placed to divert water away from ore <br />storage and on-site facilities as well as to route water away from exposed surfaces (which can <br />then create overland flow of sediment). Water bars and berms will be placed to control water <br />energy and route the water to the Stormwater containment basins. <br />Bluerock Energy Corp.
