Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
American Gypsum Company, LLC, Permit No. M-1984-041, Preliminary Adequacy Review for
R-08.
Dear Mr. Onorofskie:
On July 16, 2008, the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety reviewed the Zancanella & Associates, Inc. letter
for a 112 Construction Materials Reclamation Permit Technical Revision package for the Eagle-Gypsum Mine,
Permit No. M-1984-041. The project appears to be a straight forward request to construct a compost facility for
the town of Gypsum. A review of the application has revealed a few issues and clarifications to address.
What measures will be implemented to prevent accumulations of contaminants in the soils of the working
and stockpile areas within the compost facility. If no prevention technologies are proposed what methods of
removal of potentially contaminated soil will be used and what landfill will be used for proper disposal?
In the stormwater management plan, retention ponds are proposed rather than detention ponds with the
intent minimize a potential release of stormwater from the site. In the event that there is a release of
stormwater from the site what other permits are required and / or applied for?
The decision date for this application has been set for August 15, 2008 provided all issues have been addressed.
To allow adequate time for staff review the requested information must be received by August 11, 2008. If the
requested information is not received by August 11, 2008, the applicant should request an extension of the
decision date.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no. 970.623.5596.
Sincerely,
-?
Travis Marshall
Environmental Protection Specialist
Cc: Steve Shuey, Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
Thomas A.
