Amendment July 25, 2008
October Ore Pile Reclamation Exhibit C
110(d) Limited Impact Permit Application
Nuvemco LLC
BLM-approved seed mix shown below in Section 6.3.4 (1) (c) and mulched to prevent
erosion.
6.3.3 (1) (c) Overburden removed (amended)
No overburden or waste rock will be disturbed except for truck turn-around area
west of the ore pile as described in section 6.3.3 (1) (f) below..
6.3.3 (1) (d) Mined Thickness
No actual mining will occur. An existing ore pile covering about 0.35 acres with
an average depth of about 7 feet will be removed from the site.
6.3.3 (1) (e) Mining Components
No buildings, storage, mining equipment, etc. are involved. A front loader will be
on site for about six weeks.
6.3.3 (1) (f) Surface Disturbance (amended)
Approximately 0.35 acres which is disturbed will be improved by the removal of
the ore pile, placement of soil, grading to original contours, seeding and mulching.
(Truck Turn-Around - increase disturbed area from 0.35 to 0.46 acres)
Subsequent to the submittal of the October Ore Pile Reclamation 110 (d) - M2008-050,
the BLM determined that a wooden shelter or "sweat lodge" (see Photograph 1) north of
the ore pile and a camp site/trash pile south of the ore pile may have cultural/historical
significance and have requested a cultural survey of the area. The BLM GJFO
Archeaologist, Aline LaForge has examined the area and estimated that the historic
camp site included about 1.7 acres as shown on Figure 1. The October Ore Pile (0.35
acres of disturbed area) is located within this estimated site boundary. At the request of
the BLM Nuvemco has contracted Alpine Archaeological Consultants, Inc. to conduct a
cultural survey of the area. The BLM has also contacted the Navajo Nation to advise
them of a potential "sweat lodge" in the vicinity of the ore pile.
Nuvemco's original plan of operation included turning ore trucks around on an existing
county road and turn-around loop in the vicinity of the trash pile - an area of previous
mining camp and recent hunter's camping location. To expedite commencement of the
reclamation project, and to avoid potential impacts to the historical site, Nuvemco
proposes the following amendment:
1) Build a temporary barrier between the "sweat lodge" and ore pile to prevent any
accidental damage to the structure during the ore pile removal;
2) Construct a truck turn-around with dimensions of about 80 ft by 60 ft on a relatively
flat area west of the ore pile and historic site (see Figure 1.). This will allow trucks to
turn around prior to loading at a location immediately west of the existing and Mesa
County maintained mining road. This truck turn-around will add approximately 0.11
acres to the disturbed area of the permit application, increasing the total disturbance
to about than 0.46 acres and remain entirely within the area of October Claim No. 55.
The existing minimal soil in the area of the truck turn-around will be stock piled
during the October Ore Pile Reclamation and replaced over the disturbed area
subsequently; then re-vegetated with the approved seed mixture described in
Section 6.3.4(1)(c) of the application.
17
