Goodrich, Gary
From: Carl Poch [cpoch99@yahoo.com]
Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2008 6:15 AM
To: Fine, Alan
Cc: O'Connor, Peter; Goodrich, Gary
Subject: Operation expansion in Cripple Creek
Mr. Fine:
It appears that your local management here in Cripple Creek is unwilling to compromise by
amending the operating permit application to preserve "our" 42 acres in exchange for free
reign on 5458 acres.
I say this because your employee: Jane Mannon Manager, Community Affairs PO Box 191
Victor, CO 80860
Tel: (719) 689-4044 Fax: 719) 689-3254
E-mail: jmannon@anglogoldashantina.com
brought eight employees and a captive vendor to read scripts she had written for each of
them to the Cripple Creek city counsel
meeting on 5-21-08. This was rather interesting since your
operations, adjacent to the city limits, does not involve a vote by this city counsel on
the planned expansion.
At the same time the meeting took place, our local television station was reporting on the
ground swell of opposition to the destruction of our hillside.
Since it appears your local management is unwilling to compromise, our group has decided
it may be necessary to move to phase two of our planned approach. This will be a
statewide
referendum to ban cyanide leaching in Colorado. With our state
slogan "Colorful Colorado" and an economy primarily tourism based, our group feels
confident that this ban will succeed.
Unfortunately for your company, a ban on cyanide would shut down the CCV operation and
prevent your access to the 3.3 million oz
of proven gold reserves. I know you will be unhappy with that
outcome caused by the stubbornness of your local management.
You seem like a most reasonable individual and I would like to give you an opportunity to
contact your local management and discuss if 42 acres are worth risking a total shut down
of Anglo Gold's operations.
Thank you,
Carl Poch
Carl Poch
611 E.
