July 29, 2008
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Lincoln County Gravel Pit
Gentlemen:
r4'7 /97? of
1AUG 012008
12008
Division 01 /-?ecla
and Salfety

I object to the expansion of the "Brent Pit" from 9.2 A to 14.16 A for the following
reasons:
• The original Pit was started in 1937 or 1938. For all of those years the material
used was less than what has been used in the last 10 years. It is a waste of material
and county monies to haul material from the pit to elevate a dirt and gravel road
when there is dirt and material within yards of the elevation site.
• When the pit was permitted in 1978 I was assured it would never be expanded
again. If this expansion is granted what assurance do I have that a few years they
won't expand it again until it consumes 50A or more.
• When the county started mining the material they pushed dirt from the hill and
closed a natural spring in the creek that had water in it almost all year round.
When I purchased the place in 1961 we watered cattle in the spring until 1978 or
1979 when Lincoln County bulldozed dirt into the spring and ruined it. There
was no restitution for the loss of watering cattle there.
• At times the county hauls debris from other places and stock piles it at the pit site.
Some of the debris is from burnt houses or who knows where. Some of it is
broken concrete and building material with nails etc. that is not good to have piled
around where the cattle can get to it.
If you have to expand this pit I want in writing that you will never be allowed to expand
it again and that you will restore the spring that you have destroyed.
Thank you,
Ronald Brent
Cc: Lincoln County Land Use Office
/7
