TURNPIKE MINING RESOURCE
ANNUAL REPORT
DMG PERMIT NO. M-2004-009-AM-1
REPORT YEAR:
AUG. 4, 2007 THRU AUG. 4, 2008
This DMG Regular 112 Permit (No. M-2004-009-AM-1) was approved by the Division
for operations on August 4, 2004 and the later amendment to this permit was approved on
June 21, 2006, expanding the area to be mined by approximately 75 acres. The total
permit area is 275 acres while the area permitted to be mined is 159 acres. Mining and
production of sand and gravel began on the site in September 2004.
During the report year, mining occurred only south half of the permit area, with
reclamation (backflling) occurring on the- north -half. Approximately 13.0 acres were
mined. Approximately 3.4 acres were backfilled, constituting reclamation for the year.
All backfilling was done on areas that were mined previous to the current reporting year.
During the next reporting year, approximately 8.0 acres will be mined to the east of the
current mined area in the south half of the permit area. Reclamation will consist
primarily of backfill on the west side of the south half of the permit area in the strip along
the permit boundary in Cell 2. Wash water ponds will be moved to the upper south-half
of the permit area, as the current wash pond area will be excavated for a reservoir.
A Technical Revision to reduce the permit area of this permit and a Surety Reduction
request to reduce the bond amount has been submitted to the Division for this permit.
Approximately 120 acres of the mined area is to be taken over by the Town of Erie for
construction of a water-storage reservoir and a wastewater treatment plant.
A map is attached to this report showing the areas and acreages described above.
