' F. Description of animal impacts on revegetation: No significant animal impacts
were noted. Pronghorn do graze the older revegetation, but the pronghorn population
is small relative to the amount of land that produces food for them. Therefore, any
impacts from pronghorn are negligible.
' WEED STATUS:
1. General overview of weed status on site: Weeds remain a serious problem throughout
' this site and that is not expected to change anytime soon. The weed populations are deeply
entrenched on this land and have become that way simply because of the long life they have
had here and the continued presence of suitable disturbed habitat to enhance their persistence.
A. Status of species that have been present in the past: Spurge density has actually
' decreased some in the past year due to robust growth of grasses and the competition
they provide. However, the 2008 growing season has been very dry with little grass
growth and generally poor growth of even spurge. It is not known whether spurge will
' once again gain back the land it lost to grass last year. Spurge growth, for the most
part, is restricted to more moist habitats in 2008. If the weather turns wetter, that may
cause a shift of spurge growth to a more aggressive character. As' of the date of this
' report, nothing is growing well on the site. Tamarix control begun two years ago has
been highly successful and some additional cleanup will be done'this year along with
monitoring to see that it does not come back or spread downstream. At this point it is
' estimated there are about 50 plants scattered about the area. These appear to be mostly
ones that were previously missed. Very few, if any, new plants have appeared.
' B. New species: No new weed species have been noted. That is not surprising as
growing conditions are similar to 2002 at the height of that severe drought.
' 2. Weed status on lessee responsibility lands: Tamarix has mostly been eradicated with final
cleanup to occur this year. This will be followed by monitoring to make sure it does not come
back. Further spurge control will be done in the moist areas where vigorous growth is still
' occurring. Any appearance of spurge in newly seeded areas will receive treatment after the
new seeding has become established. Treatment prior to establishment usually will harm
native grasses, creating a persistent stunted grass growth.
i
' OTHER INFORMATION THAT MIGHT BE USEFUL FOR FUTURE REFERENCE:
Nothing of special note.
' DESCRIPTION OF UNUSUAL CONDITIONS OR EVENTS: None, other than drought
conditions being present throughout the site.
status report for 2UU7 (July 15, 2007)
?I
