MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1999-034-
M-2004-031
INSPECTION DATE: Z118.1n8 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: J? F%F?'S
/MA(-
OBSERVATIONS CONTINUED
17-2004-031; Hazeltine Mine
While inspecting the northern side of the Cooley Reservoir and Fulton Wildlife Area, we crossed 104`h Avenue
and Inspected the Hazeltine Mine. This site is approximately 204 acres in size and is actively being mined.
The southern area of the mine site appears to be stripped of topsoil and vegetation in preparation for future
mining activities (Figure 8). The northern portion of the area is where the majority of the mining activity is
taking place. Overall, the operation appears to be incompliance with the mining plan. Dewatering trenches are
in place and the mining face is progressing south toward 104°i Avenue. A conveyer system is transporting
mined material from this mine site to the plant area on the Cooley Reservoir and Fulton Wildlife Area site. The
topsoil stockpiles were stable and had some vegetative cover established.
According to Mr. Poulson the slurry wall on the east side of the current mining operation is having leakage
problems (Figure 11). He stated the Aggregate Industries is in the process of diagnosing and fixing the problem
associated with this leakage. All in all, no other problems were noted on this site.
-low
' ?VIrT
Figure 8.)
