Applegate
roue, Ina.
July 3, 2008
Mr. Gary DeWitt
Colorado Department of Transportation
Region Four Materials
3971 W. Service Road
Evans, CO 80645
CEIVE®
JUL 18 2008
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
RE: Connell Resources, Inc. Mining Permit Application for SerFer Pit
Dear Mr. DeWitt:
We are in receipt of your letter dated April 9, 2008 regarding Connell Resources, Inc. Mining
Permit Application for SerFer Pit (M-2008-006). In addition to the letter dated April 9, 2008,
representatives met with you and Joe A. Intermill, Jr. at the proposed mining site on May 7,
2008 to discuss site specific concerns from CDOT. Below are our responses to comments.
® It states on page six of the application that de-watering trenches will be excavated
around the entire perimeter of the disturbed area. Is this the entire 45+ acre site,
the 30 acre mining site, or the no more than 15 acres that will be disturbed for
mining at anyone time? Page 11 says the trenches will be constructed around
--half of the perimeter of-the-pit- Could-we have a clarification- on-this-natter?- -
According to the mining plan, no more than 15 acres will be exposed at
any one time. The dewatering trenches will only be required for active
mining within the exposed area. Furthermore, reclamation will be
performed concurrently with mining resulting in the removal of the idle
trench sections in order to install the clay liner.
We assume these trenches be located in the area to be mined and not in the set
back areas between the mined area and affected area boundaries.
The trenches will be located within the boundaries of the approved mining
permit and in the vicinity of active mining.
0 What will be the back slope of these trenches? Steep back slopes left for an
extended period of time could cause caving back into the set back areas and
reduce their width.
1499 West 120th Avenue,.
