Construction Site information: Describe structures, equipment, and physical
characteristics of the construction site to control spills and prevent releases to the
environment. Identifies petroleum/contaminate spill risks at the construction site,
including the locations, types, and quantities of petroleum/contamination on-site.
Description of Site:
The mine will be located at the Northeast corner of Section 24, Township 6 North, Range
68 West, Sixth P.M. in Larimer County, Colorado. The site is bordered on the east by
County Road 13 and on the north by State Highway 392. To the south the limits of
mining are bounded by the Cache la Poudre River and the property line on the west.
The permit boundary will encompass approximately 45 acres with approximately 30
acres being mined. The remaining area will consist of setbacks from roads and the Cache
la Poudre River, utility right-of-ways, and site access roads. Various setbacks from
adjacent roads, fences, adjacent structures, and the Cache la Poudre River will be
observed as mining occurs. See Exhibit C-2, Mining Plan Map, for information on the
setbacks and their locations.
Approximately 30 acres will eventually be mined on the site. Mining will begin on the
south end of the site near the river and will progress in a northerly direction with no more
than 15 acres being exposed at any one time. The SerFer Project site will be mined over
the anticipated span of three and a half years. The processing plant will be located on the
east side of the site, and an access road will be built to allow traffic to the plant, as shown
in Exhibit C-2, Mining Plan Map.
Processing Equipment
Screen, crusher, log washer, sand screw, conveyors, and other miscellaneous
processing equipment.
Miscellaneous
An employee/storage trailer, scale house, and scale, will be located on-site.
Dewatering pumps and generators and watering trucks will be used as needed.
As mining progresses, topsoil and overburden will be stripped with excavators and haul
trucks to expose the aggregate product below. All soil and overburden material will be
used on-site for reclamation; so long-term stockpiling of these materials is not
anticipated. Overburden stockpiles will be located within the proposed mining cells and
placed so that they do not impede potential floodwaters.
Fines produced by the onsite processing facilities will be temporarily stored in settling
ponds located on the southeast end of the site. The fines will be allowed to settle from
the wash water and then allowed to partially dry to facilitate removal from the temporary
settling ponds. The fines will then be mixed with overburden material and placed in
areas of designated backfill or into the reclaimed section.
