Emergency Overview: TOXIC! Corrosive and irritating to eyes, skin, respiratory tract <br />• and mucous membranes. Harmful or fatal if swallowed. Read the entire MSDS for a <br />more thorough evaluation of the hazards. <br />Potential Health Effects: <br />Inhalation: Irritation to mucous membranes <br />Skin Contact: May cause burns. <br />Eye Contact: May cause burns. <br />Ingestion: Severe gastritis with abdominal pain, and vomiting beginning 10-60 min <br />after ingestion. Diarrhea, and dehydration. Shock, pallor, cyanosis and coldness. Rapid, <br />weak pulse, low blood pressure, Drowsiness, hyporeflexia, dilated pupils, coma. <br />Chronic Effects: No chronic effects expected. <br />Carcinogenicity: Ferric sulfate is not classified as carcinogenic by ACGIH (American <br />Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists) or IARC (International Agency for <br />• Research on Cancer), not regulated as carcinogens by OSHA (Occupational Safety and <br />Health Administration), and not listed as carcinogens by NTP (National Toxicology <br />Program). <br />SECTION _4 -`FIRST AID MEASURES <br />General: If you feel unwell seek medical advice (show the label where possible). <br />Inhalation: If symptoms are experienced, move victim to fresh air. Give artificial <br />respiration ONLY if breathing has stopped. Induce artificial respiration with the aid of a <br />pocket mask equipped with a one-way valve or other proper respiratory medical device. <br />Obtain medical attention IMMEDIATELY. <br />Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing, jewelry, and shoes. Immediately wash <br />skin with soap or mild detergent and running water for at least 15 - 20 minutes until no <br />evidence of chemicalremains. If irritation persists obtain medical attention. <br />Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with running water for at least 20 minutes, <br />occasionally lifting upper and lower lids, until no evidence of chemical remains. If <br />irritation persists obtain medical attention. <br />Ingestion: If swallowed, contact local poison control center or physician immediately. <br />Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Give large quantities of water <br />• or milk. If vomiting occurs, keep head lower than hips to help prevent aspiration. <br />42
