Both the Settling Tank and Polish Tank have inside dimensions of 8 feet by 26.75 feet by
. 4.75 feet with a total capacity of 1,000 cubic feet or 7,500 gallons. The tanks are double
lined with leak detection in the same manner as the Untreated Water Tank.
The projected reagent consumption and resulting sludge volumes can be found in Tables
3.1 and 3.2 below, for the maximum flow rate of 20GPM. If the formed precipitate does
not settle sufficiently within the Settling Tank, flocculent can be added to aid in the
settling process. Flocculent has been included in the sludge volume calculation, although
its use will probably not be required. The trailer has sufficient space to add this
additional reagent if deemed necessary.
Table 3.1 - Reagent additions and Precipitates formed

Reagent or Metal Grams of
PPT per
day
Design dose
m /L

Assumptions

FeSo4 477.6 4.8750 Assume 90% Precipitation
BaCI 2,939.3 30 Assume 90% Precipitation
Floc 392.0 4 Assume 90% Precipitation
TDS 87.1 8 Assume 10% Removal
All metals 2.0 Assumed for safety factor
Total 3,898.1 g/day 8.6 Nday
• During exploration activities, the water treatment plant will likely operate 7 days per
week, 24 hours per day for the first few months. After the mine is dewatered, treatment
plant operating times are expected to decrease to 60 hours per week or less. The sludge
tank capacity has been sized conservatively by assuming plant operation of 5 days per
week 24 hours per day. This is a much higher rate that the historical data indicates and
should result in a sufficient safety factor in the event of extended mine life or if additional
treatment requirements are imposed.
The mine has an anticipated life of 10 years of operation. The formed precipitate or
sludge will have a bulk density of approximately 44 Lb./CuFt. Assuming 8.6 Lb./day of
PPT, the volume of sludge generated over the life of the mine can be calculated as shown
in Table 3.2.
Table 3.2 - Sludge Generated
Plant Operations 5 daystweek
24 Hr/ operating day
260 Total days of sludge production/year
Sludge Produced
2,234.3 Total #'s of Sludge per year
50.8 CuFt/ Year
Sludge production life of mine
0 22,343.4 Total #'s of Sludge
507.8 Total CuFt of sludge storage
10
