<br />• <br />Introduction <br />Boring BM00-1 was drilled to a total depth of 560 feet in order to investigate the <br />ground-water quality in the sandstone aquifers of the Burro Canyon, Brushy <br />Basin and Salt Wash formations in the Beaver Mesa area. The location of the <br />boring is shown on Figure 1. Five tests were conducted during the drilling of the <br />boring. Ground-water samples were recovered and sent to Barringer <br />Laboratories for analysis. The boring was then abandoned by placing a <br />cement/bentonite slurry from TD to surface. <br />Drilling <br />A 12-inch surface hole was drilled to a depth of 20 feet. Eight-inch surface casing <br />was set to a depth of 20 feet and cemented in place. A 7 7/8-inch hole was <br />drilled to a total depth of 560 feet. During the drilling of this boring one open- <br />hole test and four packer tests were conducted in order to recover and analyze <br />water samples from various aquifers. Figure 2 is a log of the boring. The gamma <br />ray and neutron curves shown on this log are from Cotter's exploratory hole JB- <br />96-2, drilled 10 feet to the north of BM00-1. Figure 3 shows the configuration of <br />the packer tests. Appendix A contains photographs of the cuttings. <br />Testing and Sampling <br />An open-hole test was conducted from 93 to 140 feet. Sixty gallons of water were <br />pumped before taking a sample. Once the sample was taken it was sent to <br />Umetco's laboratory at. Uravan. This sample however, contained d high <br />percentage of fine particulate material (drill cuttings). The amount and fineness <br />of this material was such that the samples could not be filtered and a <br />U.S. Environmental Services, Inc. 1
