I
informed Dr. Corley that we are proceeding with the plan to move the East Pit road to the east side
of the pit. I asked if he still favors this plan and he stated that this is probably the best use of the
reclamation money.
I told him that we are considering two alignment options; one being a straight traverse along the
East pit flank after the road crosses the lower end of the pit, and one with a 30 feet radius curve
located above and east of the pit channel crossing. I explained that the straight alignment would
be steeper than the curve alignment, and that the straight alignment would involve grades of about
12%. Dr. Corley stated that although the straighter, steeper alignment is not great, it would be
preferable to the curved alignment. He stated that he is not overly concerned with the steepness,
although such grades are not ideal. I informed Dr. Corley that the crossing, would be.filled with a
large diameter culvert, possible 8 feet, with drainage and grade controls_
I asked Dr. Corely if there were any concerns regarding our.plan to move the road relative to any
Davison property access easement location issues, and he said that there are no such concerns.
I also asked if we should be concerned with any local fire department access design specifications,
for the road and he stated that there are no such standards for this location and that we should not
concern ourselves with such.
I also informed Dr. Corley of the rock recently placed by Kessler, and that I believe the work to be
done, but that I hadn't seen the end result.
Cc: Jim McArdle
M:\oss\jrc\GEC telephone log.doc
