The cover of perennial grasses and forbs are similar to native rangelands,
however, production from both is lower, most likely due to younger plants. Cover and
production of shrubs is below that of native rangeland due to juvenile plants. The cover of weedy
forbs and bare ground exceeds that of native rangeland. Visual estimation of weedy forb cover in
2006 was about 30-40 percent across the site compared with the 14 percent measured in 2007. It
is expected that the weedy forbs will continue to decline because of the competition from
perennial plant species. Bare ground on this site is also expected to decline as the younger
perennial plants begin to mature.
In comparison of the reclamation goals/requirements:
• The cover of perennial species is 77 % of that on undisturbed sites.
• The production of perennial grasses is 34 % and production of perennial forbs is 30 % of
that on undisturbed sites.
• The composition of perennial forbs is 87 % of that on undisturbed sites.
• The composition of shrubs is 49 % of that on undisturbed sites.
It is likely the site will achieve the requirements at some point without additional reclamation
efforts as perennial species continue to mature and increase their production.
Well Pad Site 3A-4H: This site also has a good survival and distribution of seeded species.
There are larger areas of bare ground on this site than the other sites due to a more southerly
exposure. The plant composition of this site in terms of perennial grasses, forbs and shrubs is
19
