SUBJECT: Red Cliff Mine (Permit No. C-2008-086)
New Permit Application Adequacy Review
The permit application for the proposed Red Cliff Mine was deemed complete July 3, 2008. The
proposal is for a new permit to conduct coal mining operations in Colorado. The proposed operation
will mine and ship up to eight million clean tons of coal per year. Most of the coal will be sent through
a coal preparation plant to remove rock and low quality coal from the clean coal stream. A coal mine
waste disposal area will be constructed to permanently store the rock and low quality coal. Clean coal
will be transported from the mine by a proposed rail spur that is not regulated by the DRMS. The,
proposed mining operation would be located approximately 14 miles north of Loma, east of Highway
139.
