Addendum to 2008 Rrll & Gully Survey
Page 2
SCC will try to alleviate some of the problem by enlarging YPM-8 and other select channels, e.g. wider shallower
side slopes and greater depth.
SCC has not found a way to eliminate snow and ice buildup in channels during snowmelt. If the DRMS has a fool-
proof method to eliminate channel blockage by ice during snowmelt, we would definitely be interested in reviewing
and considering it.
3. Nature and extent of erv rion along the Annand Draw tributary downstream of YPM-8, and a plan for rrmediation.
Response: SCC personnel physically walked the Annand Draw tributary below YPM-8 and observed various
degrees of erosion and down cutting in the channel. In general the channel width is only 1 to 2 feet wide and
varying depths up to 8 feet except in one area where the erosion, below a knick point, approaches 25 feet wide by
100_feet_long._ - -- -- - - - - -- - - -- - - - -
SCC proposes to use varying methods to remediate the channel erosion. The remediation method will be selected
as the remediation proceeds along the channel.
a) Topsoil will be windrowed away from the channel section to be worked on and re-spread when
construction is complete;
b) Channel sections will be reconfigured/reshaped as necessary;
c) Select portions of the channel could be lined with TRM;
d) Select portions of the channel could have check dams installed; or
e) Select portions of the channel could be reconfigured/reshaped as a vegetated channel (grade dependent).
Sincerely,
Roy Karo
Reclamation Manager
Seneca Coal Company
cc: DRMS (Denver Office)
