MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-991-003
INSPECTION DATE: 6/95/118 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: IF-4 C
OBSERVATIONS
On June 25'h' 2008 1, Jared Ebert and Michael Cunningham of the Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining
and Safety conducted an inspection of the Tomahawk Mine; permit number M-1991-003. This site is located
about 35 miles south of Colorado Springs, in Pueblo County, Colorado. This site is located on Fort Carson
Army Base. At this time, the operator is changing from Robinson Brick to General Shale Brick; this inspection
was conducted to take on-site measurements to determine the proper financial warranty for the site. Mr. Greg
Knell and Jason McGraw of Robinson Brick accompanied us on the inspection. Also, Mr. Bruce Miller and
Jeff of the Environmental Division of the US Army accompanied us on the inspection.
'T'ile finical warranty was determined by estimating approximately what it would cost the Division to reclaim the
site based on the measurements and observations noted during this inspection as well as information provided in
the permit application. The office has determined that the appropriate financial warranty be set at the amount of
$70,685. Please refer to the following pages outlining how the financial warranty was determined.
Mining appears to be occurring in the Phase II location. The site consists of three product stockpiles, a pit
excavation, a topsoil stockpile, and a processing area that is constructed out of overburden material.
Reclamation of this site would consist or replacing clay stockpiles back into the pit excavation, sloping and
backfilling the excavated areas with overburden, spreading topsoil over the entire affected area, and establishing
vegetative cover over the area.
The permit area was clearly marked and the operation appeared to be well within its boundary. No signs of
severe erosion were noted on the site. No major noxious weed infestation we noted on the site. The operation
does not seem to be negatively impacting the hydrologic balance of the area. Overall, the operation is in
compliance with the approved mining and reclamation plan.

Figure 1.) Processing area with product piles

I1'igurc 2.) Locking south at the pit excavation,'there
is one product pit at the bottom ofthis excavation.
