Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33,
Section 118, Paragraph 3 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on July 3, 2008, an application for a permit to
conduct coal mining operations at the Redcliff Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All
review and comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules and
Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining initiate from this date of filing.
The applicant CAM-Colorado, LLC, proposes to conduct underground coal mining operations on land located
approximately 14 miles North of Loma. The permit area is further described as follows:
The proposed mine facilities would be located east of State Highway 139 near mile marker 12. The Government
Highline Canal is located south of the mine facilities. The proposed mine permit area is located on the U.S.
Geological Survey 7.5 minute Highline Lake, Garvey Canyon, and Howard Canyon Quadrangle maps within the
following sections.
All of Sections 27, 28, 33, and 34, Township 7 South, Range 102 West, 6's P.M.
All of Sections 2 and 3, and portions of Sections 4, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19, Township 8 South, Range 102
West, 6" P.M.
The proposal is for a new permit to conduct coal mining operations in Colorado. The proposed operation will
mine and ship up to eight million clean tons of coal per year. Most of the coal will be sent through a coal
preparation plant to remove rock and low quality coal from the clean coal stream. A coal mine waste disposal area
will be constructed to permanently store the rock and low quality coal. Clean coal will be transported from the
mine by a proposed rail spur that is not regulated by the DRMS.
In order for us to approve this application, we are required to make a finding that "the proposed operations will not
adversely affect any publicly owned park or place listed on or those places eligible for listing, as detennined by the
SHPO, on the National Register of Historic Places, unless approved jointly by the Board and the Federal, State, or
local agency with jurisdiction over the park or place." We request your evaluation and concurrence in order to
make this finding, pursuant to the May 1991 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between our agencies.
Please refer to the MOU when undertaking your review.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver - Grand Junction - Durango Active and Inactive Mines
