III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br /> Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br /> during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br /> and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br /> This was a partial inspection of the Bowie No. 1 Mine (Permit No. C-1981-038) conducted by <br /> Marcia Talvitie of the Colorado DRMS on 20-Jun-2008. The project superintendent for the East <br /> Mine reclamation work participated in that portion of the inspection. <br /> Sediment Ponds <br /> Access to Pond 3 (Figure 1) and Pond 4 (Figure 2) was gained via the cabled gate located on <br /> Stephens Gulch Road. The road to the ponds had been surfaced with coarse gravel, and was <br /> traversable by vehicle. 5ut-fgeed/51u/-&nc2 1Yr('Ae(,-5 al)d/ofjl)f,Z® 5'12 #oced o.S <br /> re�ujlec� <br /> Both ponds were dry, and the impoundment structures appeared to be sound (Figures 3 and 4). <br /> The gate valve at the outlet from Pond 3 was in the open position (Figure 5). <br /> Pond bottoms and side slopes were well vegetated and stable. However, a stand of Canada <br /> thistle was observed low on the east bank of Pond 3. <br /> Reclamation Activities at East Mine <br /> High wall backfill and slope grading work was continuing on the various benches of the East <br /> Mine. Equipment being utilized included excavators, bull dozer and rock trucks. <br /> A water truck was observed spraying the haul roads for dust control. <br /> Portions of the outer slope of the Fan Bench have been seeded and mulched (Figure 6). <br /> Bowie No. 1 Mine C-1981-038 20-Jun-2008 <br /> -1- <br />
