You can compare this to the baseline map which was produced from my
baseline survey of 20 Aug 2007.
My observations today include the following important findings:
1. There are no indications of an attempt to control tamarisk on this site since the
survey of 2007.
2. Heavy equipment is working in the immediate vicinity of existing tamarisk trees.
These mechanical operations have the ability to transport vegetative plant material
off-site, which would spread the infestation.
3. Control measures for tamarisk should be implemented before Oct 1st of this year.
I can provide some assistance in implementing a control plan. Here are my suggestions:
1. Contact a commercial pesticide application company and have them apply herbicides to
the affected tamarisk. I'd suggest either Colorado Vegetation Management out of
Pueblo (545.545.6163), or The Weed Works in Westcliffe (783.0725).
2. For the tamarisk, a foliar herbicide application between now and October 1' would be
very effective...you could expect something in the range of 90% control. Once the
leaves have fallen, a different (and much more expensive) approach would be required.
Colorado State University, U.S._Department of Agriculture and Huerfano County cooperating.
