C-81-014
Revegetation Success Standards
Z'/
Dear Kent Gorham:
This letter is with reference to the "Revegetation Monitoring Report for
Reclaimed Areas-Sampled in 2006 on_the Southfield Mine". The report is dated 21
March, 2007 and was prepared by Mr. Kent Crofts of I:M.E., Inc. of Yampa; Colorado on
behalf of Energy Fuels Coal, Inc.(EFCI).
In the Conclusions: section of the report, IME recommends that EFCI requests to..
modify the revegetation success standards-ii "the permit document with respect to woody
plant density and species diversity- so.it is more representative of the native vegetation in
the area. During a4ater visit to Southfield in the spring of 2008, IME further concluded
that the areas adjacent to the mine facilities. area have been pre-disturbed by earlier
mining (or similar) activities.
In your Report `Review' letter dated 01-14-08 which responds to the Monitoring
Report, you state you are favorable to the recommendation and suggest that EFCI submits
a request for the modifications in the next midterm or permit renewal. EFCI agrees that
modification to the revegetation success standards is appropriate and/or consider moving
the existing vegetation reference area to a more representative site. To.this end, EFCI
-would-appreciate direction or-suggestions from the Division-for the best procedure to
make these modifications to reach a more representative comparison of the native
vegetation.
Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
eorge V.-Patterson
Gen..Mirie.Manager 1
