2.01 General Requirements <br />2.01.1 Scope <br />This permit describes the minimum general requirements for continued operation of the coal mining <br />activities at West Elk Mine. 'The permit describes how reclamation and operations are to be <br />conducted according to the requirements of the Rules associated with Title 34, Article 33, of the <br />Colorado Revised Statutes of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. <br />2.01.2 General Requirements for Existing Operations <br />MCC is filing this application for a permit revision to continue mining operations at West Elk <br />Mine. This mine is located about two miles east of Somerset in Gunnison and Delta Counties, <br />Colorado. This application constitutes a revision of existing permit C-80-007. The current 5-year <br />pen-nit expiration date is February 13, 2012. <br />2.01.3 General Requirements for Permits for All Surface Coal Mining <br />and Reclamation Operations <br />West Elk Mine operates under Permit C-80-007 issued by the CDMG. MCC expects to continue <br />coal production at West Elk Mine for 20 years or more under this life of mine operation. <br />2.01.4 Permit Requirements for New Surface Coal Mining and Reclamation <br />Operations <br />This section does not apply to West Elk Mine. <br />2.01.5 Permit Term <br />MCC will operate West Elk Mine under a permit issued by the CDMG. The mine will be <br />permitted in five-year increments. As the mining operation continues through the tenn of the <br />permit, additional renewal and revisions, where required, will be made to continue mining at <br />West Elk Mine. The current ride-yeas- perrmit was issued on February 13, 2007.and will expire <br />on February 13, 2012, as a result of RN-05. <br />2.01.6 Permit Fees <br />MCC filed permit fees with the original application submitted in 1980 to cover the costs of <br />administering, and enforcing this permit pursuant to the Rules of the Colorado Mined Land <br />Reclamation Act, as amended. <br />r? <br />U <br />2.01-1 I Revised Abveniber 2004 PRI G, Sep. 2007 PR12
