111111. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Sunlight C-1981-046
Pg 1/1 2 June 2008
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the Sunlight Mine conducted by Jim Stark of
CDMG. The permit for the site has been revoked and the reclamation was
completed by the Division. The weather was warm and sunny and the ground was
dry.
Signs and Markers: The Division's revoked mine site sign was in place and in good
condition at the time of the inspection.
Hydrologic Balance: - The lower reclaimed sediment pond area was well vegetated
and stable. No erosional problems were noted.
- The upper sediment pond was stable and appeared to be in good condition. No
erosional problems were noted.
Backfilling and Grading: - The regraded portal area on the north side of the road was
stable and appeared to be in good condition. There was no settling or cracking and
there was good vegetation on the slope. There were no erosional problems noted.
- The portal area on the south side of the road (and below the road) has collapsed.
The wood cribbing appears to have rotted and caused the collapse. The seal inside
the portal still appears to be stable. It is unknown how stable this area is. It may
cause some concern as it is below the road.
