Discharge of treated
water from the Whirlwind Mine is allowed in accordance with Colorado Discharge Permit
System (CDPS) permit number CO-0047562.
The Whirlwind Mine workings were dewatered as of January 28, 2008. Currently, mine
water is collecting in the mine at a slow rate (approximately 1 to 2 gpm) and is being pumped
into the untreated water tank and treated in batch runs, as necessary. One batch run occurred
in April from April 22 to 25. A monthly discharge sample was collected on April 23, 2008.
Analytical sample results indicate that no exceedances of the effluent limitations occurred in
April 2008.
Dissolved iron, sulfate, and nitrate levels are being monitored in the discharge samples at the
request of WQCD. Dissolved iron in the discharge samples was detected at 0.40 mg/L,
sulfate was detected at 77 mg/L, and nitrate was detected at 3.2 mg/L.
Please contact me at (303) 974-2151 if you need any additional information.
Sincerely,
Zach Rogers
Cc: Jeff Osborn, Frank Filas, Marty Olson (Energy Fuels)
Attachment: April 2008 DMR
I'Mergv Fuels, Inc. 44 Union Blvd, 7uiie 600 ;
L4{ ez? rgyfuels.cc>rn Lakewood, Colorado 90228
llhotw : 30-3-974-2140
l=ax: 303-974-2141
