111. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This partial inspection of the Carbon Junction Coal Mine was conducted by DRMS staff from the
Durango Office, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 315, Durango, CO 81301, phone (970) 247-5469. Two
photos accompany this report.
Mine identification sign was posted at the entrance to the permit area. Mine entrance gate was open.
Contractor Mike Tezak was on site and removing abandoned equipment from the bone yard. As
shown in the accompanying photos, the remaining equipment to be removed was limited to two semi-
truck trailers, previously utilized to store equipment parts, and five pieces of partially dismantled
equipment. Equipment owned by Mr. Tezak and on site included one truck tractor, hooked up to one
of the abandoned semi-truck trailers, one excavator, one front-end loader, and one end-dump truck for
hauling partially dismantled equipment.
Both sediment ponds were dry. Vegetative cover appeared well established.
