(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2002-1 10
INSPECTION DATE: 5/20/2008
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS THM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The BLM Burnt Shale Pit is located 20 miles north of Loma, Colorado off of
Highway 139. The site is a 110c operation that consists of 3.27 acres.
The mine identification sign was located at the entrance to the site. The permit boundary markers were not identified
during the inspection. Per Rule 3.1.12(2), the boundaries of the affected area will be marked by monument or other
markers that are clearly visible and adequate to delineate such boundaries. Please provide this office with photo
documentation that demonstrates permit boundary markers are in place no later than July 21, 2008.
The pit is currently active. The Annual Report indicated that only 350 tons of material was removed in 2007. A
screen was the only piece equipment staged at the site. A stockpile of gravel was observed on the pit floor near the
entrance to the site. It appeared that minimal activity occurred at the site and material is mined on an as needed basis.
Various weeds were observed within the permit boundaries. Hoary Cress was observed within the permit boundary
along the fence that parallels the highway. This is not seen as a problem due to an active weed management plan.
However, this is noted as a tool to monitor progress during future inspections.
Photos that show the conditions observed during the inspection are included at the end of this report.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no.
970-623-5596.
I & E Contact Address cc:
NAME: Jason Smith ?
