Hubbard Creek Shaft Mud Pit Embankment ?Project No. 28-0248 <br />sample tested had 53 percent fines, a liquid limit of 27 percent and a plastic index of 11 percent. <br />One natural sand sample tested had 40 percent fines, a liquid limit of 26 percent and a plastic <br />index of 11 percent. Bedrock was not encountered to the maximum depths explored. The fill <br />was typically very loose. Denser layers were encountered when drive samples'. were obtained <br />on a sandstone bedrock fragment. The natural soils were medium stiff to very stiff or loose to <br />dense depending on the soil classification of any given soil type and/or classification. All soils <br />were moist to very moist. The fill generally classified as a SM and SC and the natural soils as a <br />CL and SC according to the Unified Soil Classification System. Laboratory test results are <br />presented in the Summary of Laboratory Test Results table. <br />Groundwater was encountered in the test borings at the time of field exploration at <br />depths of 18.5 and 8.5 feet in test holes TH-1 and TH-2, respectively. While drilling TH-2, it was <br />observed that groundwater stabilized at a depth of 11.4 feet in TH-1. A delayed groundwater <br />level in TH-2 could not be obtained. <br />LIMITATIONS <br />The subsurface investigation presented in this report are based upon our data obtained <br />from the borings at the indicated locations, field observations, laboratory testing, and other <br />information discussed in this report. It is possible that subsurface conditions may vary between <br />or beyond the points explored. The nature and extent of such variations may not become <br />evident until construction. The report was prepared in substantial accordance with the generally <br />accepted standards of practice for geotechnical engineering as exist in the site area at the time <br />of our investigation.
