(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2002-1 10
INSPECTION DATE: 5/20/2008
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS THM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The 19 Road Pit is located 6 miles west of Grand Junction, Colorado off of River
Road. The site is a 110c operation that has been completely mined and is in final stages of reclamation.
The mine identification sign and the affected area boundary markers were not in place. This is not seen as a problem
due to the current conditions observed at the site which appeared to be in the final stages of reclamation.
The pit is currently inactive and reclamation efforts were observed during the inspection. The slopes around the pond
were no steeper than the required 3H:1 V. Revegetation success is limited to the shoreline that surrounds the pond.
The soil above the shoreline appears to have sodic characteristics that may inhibit successful revegetation. Addition
of topsoil or a revision to the approved seed mix to include high salt tolerant grasses may improve revegetation
efforts.
Various weeds were observed within the permit boundaries. Tamarisk and Russian Olive were observed within the
permit area; both Tamarisk and Russian Olive are listed as a noxious weed and will hinder the ability of native plant
species to get established which may delay the release of the 19 Road Pit. Per Rule 3.1.10 (6), Methods of weed
control shall be employed for all prohibited noxious weed species, and whenever invasion of a reclaimed area by other
weed species seriously threatens the continued development of the desired vegetation. This is not seen as a problem
due to an active weed management plan. However, this is noted as a tool to monitor progress during future
inspections.
In an effort to ensure the financial warranty remains adequate to reclaim this site per the requirements of the
approved reclamation plan, DRMS reviewed the reclamation cost estimate and determined it to be sufficient based on
the stage of reclamation observed during the inspection.
Photos that show the conditions observed during the inspection are included at the end of this report.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no.
970-623-5596.
I & E Contact Address cc:
NAME: Brent Kerr ?
