-8-
Reclamation of each subarea involves covering the
previous subarea begins. Re 9
completed pile with four (4) feet of non-toxic, non-combustible fill material
(subsoil ) followed by placement of 1 .5 feet of suitable topsoil material . The
topsoiled area is then seeded and mulched in accordance with the approved
revegetation plan.
Mine-related surface disturbances to be reclaimed at the end of the mine's
life consist of the D-Portal area, water storage area, overland conveyor
route, slot storage facility, rail loadout/loop, ventilation facility, and the
alluvial well field located at the mouth of Scullion Gulch near County Road
65. Reclamation of these areas involves sealing of all portals, removal of
all surface structures, backfilling to approximate original contour,
re-establishment of affected drainages, replacement of stockpiled topsoil over
regraded areas, and seeding and mulching of all topsoiled areas during the
fall planting season (October-November). Application of fertilizer over
seeded areas will be based,on the results of site specific fertility testing
of topsoiled areas.
At the D-Portal area, reclamation will involve re-establishing the Scullion
Gulch drainage channel to its' approximate original meander and gradient.
This will entail removing the mine bench and large culvert diversion system
placed underneath the mine bench during construction of the D-Portal facility.
Access roads to each of the above facilities will also be reclaimed as
• described above with the exception of County Road 65 and the portion of the
refuse disposal haul road situated north of County Road 65. These two roads
will be retained as part of the approved post mining land use of the area.
The refuse haul road will be partially reclaimed, however by reducing the
width by 1 /2, shortening all culverts accordingly and topsoiling and seeding
the regraded portion of the road.
With the exception of the D-Portal area sediment pond (Pond DP-1 ) , all
sediment ponds controlling runoff from the various surface facilities areas
will be retained until vegetation on reclaimed areas has become sufficiently
established to effectively' controi erosion. A series of three loose rock
check dams have been installed along Scullion Gulch below the 0-Portal Area to
provide adequate- sediment control while the D-Portal area is being reclaimed.
