Price, Chief Engineering, Analysis Division, Office of
Surface Mining, Denver, Colorado
FROM: Robert P. Smith, Project Leader, Endangered Species Office,
Grand Junction, Colorado
SUBJECT: Amendment To Biological Assessment For The Deserado Mine,
Rio Blanco County, Colorado
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has received the subject amendment,
dated April 29, 1986. Based on previous Endangered Species Act (ESA)
Section 7 compliance for the Deserado Mine by Deseret Generation and
Transmission's Moon Lake Power Project (FWS Consultation File No. 6-5-80-F-
507) , FWS agrees with your "no effect" determination for federally listed
fishes. In regard to possible impacts to the endangered black-footed
ferret, FWS can agree with "no effect" as long as OSM assures that
appropriate surveys will be done within one year prior to any disturbances
to occupied prairie dog communities.
Thank you for your interest in conserving endangered species.
•
