cross-sections of the permit area, prepared in accordance with 2.10, shall accompany the descriptions and include <br />the following: <br />C~ <br />seam to be mined; <br />coal to be mined; <br />(ii) The proposed permit area, including coal outcrops and the strike and dip of the <br />(b) (i) Test borings or core samples from the proposed permit area shall be collected and <br />analyzed down to and including either the stratum immediately below the lowest coal seam to be mined or any aquifer <br />(A) Location of subsurface water zones, if encountered; <br />(B) Logs of drill holes, test borings or other sampling methods as <br />approved by the Division showing the lithologic characteristics and thickness of each stratum and each coal seam; <br />(C) Physical properties of each stratum within the overburden and <br />(D) Chemical analysis of each stratum within the overburden and <br />interburden and either the stratum immediately below the lowest coal seam to be mined or any aquifer below the <br />lowest coal seam to be mined which may be adversel~ffected by mining, whichever is deeper, to identify~a <br />• minimum, those horizons which contain potential acid-forming, toxic-forming, or alkalinity-producing materials; <br />and <br />(E) Analyses of the coal seam including, but not limited to, an <br />anal sis of the sulfur, pyrite, and marcasite content. <br />(ii) Borehole spacing and physical and chemical analyses of core <br />samples shall be determined in consultation with the Division. <br />(iii) if required by the Division, test borings, core samplings or samples <br />obtained by other methods approved by the Division shall be collected and analyzed to greater depths within the <br />imposed permit area, or far areas outside the proposed permit area to provide for evaluation of the imQact of the <br />proposed activities on the hydrologic balance. <br />(iv) An applicant may request that the requirement for a statement of the <br />results of the test borings or core samples be waived by the Division. The waiver may be granted only if the <br />Division makes a written determination that the statement is unnecessary because other equivalent information is <br />accessible to it in a satisfactory form. The source(s) of such equivalent information shall be referenced in the <br />Division's written determination and the information itself shall be made readily accessible by the Division for <br />public review as required by 1.08 if such information has not been determined to be of a confidential nature in <br />accordance with 2,02.7 and 2.07.5. <br />• ~f ^ ~ JUtd 0 1C~t;G <br />PR 99-OS 2.04-]2.] 5/25/00 <br />
