footers. During final reclamation the conveyors and stoker will be tom down and removed from the site. The
foundation for the building will be covered during site regrading.
. Railroad Track
•
A twelve-mile railroad spur line connects the Foidel Creek Mine with the east-west railroad line (Craig Branch) of
the Union Pacific Railroad Company (iJP). This spur line was originally constructed in 1962 to service the Energy
Mine No. 1 and ended just west of the Tipple No. 1. Tn 1974, the spur line was extended to service Tipple No. 2.
In order to accommodate larger unit trains, CYCC further extended the existing railroad spur approximately 300
feet. Approximately 70 feet of this most recent extension was constructed in a previously disturbed azea. The
extension was constructed to the configuration and specifications shown on Figure 11A, Existing Railroad Cross-
Section. The typical cut drawing for the railroad extension is presented as Figure 11 B.
Construction of the spur extension involved topsoil salvage, construction of a diversion ditch, cut and fill work,
placement of road-bed materials, and installation of railroad ties and track, as described in the following
paragraphs. An existing road was used to access the site. Given the short duration of the project, topsoil was not
removed from the existing road. Upon completion of the project, the road will be bladed as needed.
The disturbance associated with this project resulted in stripping of approximately 21 inches of Coutis Fine Sandy
Loam from the area. Refer to Map 29, Energy Mine No. 1 and 2 Soils Map, for the location of this soil unit in
relation to the railroad disturbance. It is estimated that topsoil was salvaged from an area of approximately 2 acres,
resulting in recovery and stockpiling of approximately 5,800 CY of topsoil for use in final reclamation of the azea.
The stockpile was stabilized by seeding it with the Pastweland seed mixture. The location of the stockpile is shown
on Map 24.
In conjunction with this activity, CYCC constructed a diversion ditch upslope of the extension, to route undisturbed
drainage around the site. The calculations for the ditch are as follows:
TRACK EXTENSION DIVERSION DITCH
11.0
7,400
6,950
450
1,220
18.9
0.582
Drainage Area (acres)
Max.
