baseline Section 2.4, using both aerial photographs and ground surveys. A detailed
• view of the irrigated and subirrigated land immediately adjacent to the mined area
can be seen on Exhibit 2.4-I in the Vegetation Section. Irrigated lands below the
mapping area are shown on Exhibit 2.9-I in Land Use.
Mapping of Agricultural Lands
Agricultural lands are classified as flood irrigated lands, pasture lands or
undeveloped range lands as shown on Exhibit 2.9-I in the Land Use Section.
Vegetative productivity of these lands can be determined by correlating Exhibits 2.9-
I and 2.4- I .
Identification of Subirrigated Lands
From the baseline studies and vegetation information, it can be seen that the
terraces on the west side of Trout Creek that are outside The permit area are
subirrigated, especially along the bluff above the DTI terrace. However, no lands
within the affected area of the mine are identified as being subirrigated.
u
Identification of Flood Irrigatible Lands
Within The area to be offected by the Edna Mine there are no additional lands
which could be flood irrigated. For West Ridge, Exhibit 4.6-t6, the area to be mined
is primarily land that has been mined prior to any law requiring the salvaging and
replacement of topsoil. For West Ridge flood irrigation is impractical, even if water
could be routed to this area, because the slope exceeds 10%. The Moffat Area is not
potentially flood irrigatible because the average slope of the land exceeds 12%.
Analysis of Aerial Photographs
Color infrared aerial photographs were used in both the soils and vegetation
environmental resources descriptions to show the soil and vegetative growth
differences over the study area.
4.6.2.2 Valley Floor Characteristics
•
Based upon the environmental resources descriptions of the mine the areas to be
disturbed by the Edna Mine for the rest of its life do not include any lands which ore
4.6-60
