Both armored downdrains at Fill 7 are
showing some signs of erosion and
instability due to past runoff. The east
downdrain is shown at right. Due to
revegetation of contributing areas of the
watershed, runoff volumes should be
significantly reduced over the long-term.
While equipment is at the site this field
season to complete the remaining
reclamation, maintenance of these
armored channels should be completed
in accordance with accepted
engineering practices for riprap
installation.
Revegetation
Areas where knapweed had been identified
and treated in previous seasons were
traversed on foot. Numerous knapweed plants
were located and are showing signs of
flowering in the next few weeks. Knapweed
plants (shown right) were also identified
northeast of the straw bale storage area near
the crest of Fill 8. These should be treated as
soon as possible since early treatment is very
effective.
Overall, the area appeared in good condition for the spring season.
Areas seeded late last fall are showing
excellent signs of vegetative growth. The
slope above pond 6 is shown below.
