J <br />Page 9 <br />20) Act of May 10,1872(General MIningLaw of 1872). Provided <br />procedures for locating mining claims largely unchanged to this <br />day. Patent may be issued for land containing valuable mineral <br />deposits upon expenditure of $500 worth of work. <br />21) Act of July 26,1866, 14 Stat 251, all mineral lands of the <br />public domain are declared open to exploration and occupation. <br />Lode mining claims could be patented upon improvments of $1000 <br />and payment of $5 per acre. <br />22) Act of July 9,1871. 16Stat 217 Amended the Act of July 26,1866 <br />to include placer locations, not to exceed 160 acres for one person <br />or association of persons.
