(Page 2)
MINE ID# OR PROSPECTING ID#: U-1280-11M
INSPECTION DATE: KAny 132QQ8 INSPECTORS INITIALS: —nR9
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine inspection conducted by David Bird of DBMS. Present during the inspection was Mr.Scott
Reynolds, Vice President and General Manager for ARS, Inc. -Denver. The site is located in Douglas County
about 7 miles south of the intersection of C-470 and Highway 85 in close proximity to both residential and light
industrial areas, and is bounded on the east by the Highline Canal. Access to the site is via Highway 85 south
from C-470, west on Titan, and north on North Roxborough Park Road.
Mr. Reynolds reports that very minimal mining is occurring at the site, consisting of small amounts of sandy-silty-
loam, which incidentally was the source of material for the infield at Coors Field. ARS' primary business is
construction, and the site is used to recycle and reprocess construction materials such as asphalt and
concrete. Three or four small crushers and support conveyors, a bulldozer, and other assorted equipment are
parked at the site awaiting call to duty when the construction market improves. Several small stockpiles of
p9oduct were present during the inspection. 0%
ARS currently allows an outside construction company to park some equipment on site on ground that appears
to be about one acre in size
No problems were observed during the inspection. The mine entrance is posted with the requisite sign and
permit boundaries are well marked. No storm runoff or erosional problems were seen, there are no weed issues,
and no geotechnical stability issues were observed. Some concurrent reclamation grading, topsoiling, and
revegetation have already been performed, and very few open cuts are present. Mr. Reynolds noted that the
company devotes considerable effort to dust control, due to the site's close proximity to a residential area.
A low point at the northern end of the disturbed area is doing an admirable job of collecting storm water even
though it was not designed for that purpose. Mr. Reynolds indicated that the depression was likely going to be
filled in. If so, the operator may need to consider the fate of storm runoff and plan accordingly with a new
storm runoff retention facility to avoid drainage problems in the pit area and off-site runoff.
Comparison of current site conditions to the financial warranty calculated by the Division following the 2001
inspection indicates that conditions are comparable and that the financial warranty is adequate, so no further
action is required of the operator.
I & E Contact Address
cc: r CE
NAME: Scott Reynolds r BL
r FS
OPERATOR: ARS Sand & Gravel Co..
