J . Prime Farmland Investigation <br /> There are no areas within the Coal Basin permit or <br /> adjacent areas classified as prime farmlands . The Soil <br /> Conservation Service (Glenwood Springs , Colorado) has been . <br /> contacted and verifies that no prime farmland exists in the <br /> Coal Basin area . (See SCS letter, Appendix III-J-1) The <br /> surface uses in Coal Basin as discussed in Sections B and C <br /> of Chapter VI , Postmining Land Use, have severe limitations <br /> and are limited to pasture, woodland , or wildlife food and <br /> cover . <br /> In addition, the following site characteristics pre- <br /> clude the area being classified as prime farmland : <br /> - Soils are thin (Section III . G . ) <br /> • - Climate is severe (Section III . F . ) <br /> t <br /> - Vegetation is limited .(Section III .H . ) <br /> - Land use has been limited to rangeland , wildlife <br /> habitat and recreation. (Section III . A. ) <br /> -1- <br />
