solids of 415 mg/l , with suspended solids ranging from 10-
• 1560 mg/l . The sulfate concentration averaged 100 mg/l ,
with copper concentrations ranging from 0-17 mg/l and iron
ranging from 100-1900 ug/l .
Data collected from Bear Creek (BC-1) provide
the best indicator as to the water quality characteristics
which would occur naturally in Dutch Creek. It should ,
however , be recognized that Dutch Creek drains an area
which, as described by the Forest Service in the Thompson
Creek Land Use Plan, is characterised by very steep slopes
and high erosion potential . Bear Creek, on the other hand ,
drains an area characterized by moderate to steep slopes ,
and moderate to high erosion potential . The natural occurrence
• of solids and concentrates in the Dutch Creek samples will
thus be higher than in the Bear Creek samples , although
comparison of the data does provide a useful indicator .
The Bear Creek data show dissolved solids of
315 mg/l , suspended solids ranging from 0-250 mg/l , sulfates
averaging 120 mg/l and iron ranging from 0-3700 ug/l .
The last sampling point on Coal Creek before
the creek discharges to the Crystal River (Station CC-1) is
located 3 miles below Bear Creek. Upper concentrations
ranged from 0-10 ug/1 and iron ranged from 100-3300 ug/l .
The average TDS was 317 mg/l, suspended solids ranged from
10 to 350 mg/1 and sulfate concentration averaged 100 mg/l .
-23-
I
