Suffice it <br /> to say that the soils handled like sandy loans. <br /> General Discussion , <br /> In general , the analysis shoved that most all components tested were <br /> on the low side with respect to concentration with the exception of organic <br /> matter (see table 2) . Also, potassium 'and iron are present in quantities <br /> sufficient to support vegetative growth. Several of the nitrate concen- <br /> trations are relatively high and are probably associated with the high <br /> concentrations of organic material and small coal fragments. The sat- <br /> uration percentageS of the soils were high, again due to the high organic <br /> content; these percentages indicate a good water holding capacity, and <br /> • the organic material would facilitate water infiltration. <br /> The two toiancos shale samples showed very low concentrations of all <br /> components tested. This is not unusual when this deposit is found in <br /> mountainous areas of higher precipitation ranges and when it is tightly <br /> packed as this area of shale is . Hcwever, the material should be monitored <br /> on a regular basis to ensure that a more concentrated vein is not exposed. <br /> The SAR's of all of the materials is quite low, as are the salt <br /> concentrations_ , indicating very low salt and sodium hazards . The pH' s <br /> of the materials are all within "normal" ranges. <br /> Conclusions <br /> The soil of the area examined is of good quality and should pose no <br /> problems at all with respect to toxic element releases. Also, the I'Aaricos <br /> shale tested is of a very benign nature, and likewise should not show <br /> any problems. Re-ve'getat on of the area should proceed normally with <br /> � I8 6 <br />
