Grand County Department of Road & Bridge Page 1
Red Dirt Pit - M.L.R.B. Permit #!,X-2007-092
Weed Control Plan
This plan will be implemented as part of the normal opera-
tion of the mine. This weed plan covers all noxious weeds
identified by the Division, NRCS and Grand County Department of
Natural Resources for this mine. Grand County Department of
Natural Resources has implemented a Weed Management Annual
Operating & Financial Plan for the entire county including all
the Counties gravel mines. Their plan does not specifically
spell out what methods of determining the need for spraying on
this mine will be, so the following plan is site specific.
Our plan is to do selective spraying on the areas of noxious
weed infestation areas on the mine starting the first summer of
operations (2008) and continue until they are under control.
Grand County Department of Natural Resources will do the spraying
as part of their overall county spray plan. They will determine
the chemical to be used, as this is their area of expertise. In
past years they have used 150 gal mix of Escort at 1 oz/ac and
Milestone at 5 oz/ac to treat mine sites. If cheatgrass becomes
a problem it will be sprayed with Roundup in the fall when it
germinates.
The chemicals to be used in the future will be determined
when spraying begins. Any chemicals used will be applied at the
manufactures suggested rate. Spraying will take place until we
have the noxious weed problem under control.
We will be working with the Grand County Department of
Natural Resources to decide if additional spraying will be
necessary or when it can be suspended because the weed problem is
under control. The sprayed areas will be monitored and records
on plant reduction will be kept. Spraying will be on an annual
basis unless our monitoring indicates that periodic mid-term
treatment is necessary. Total control may not be possible
because the surrounding areas are not under our control or
management plan and will be the seed source for continuing
infestation.
