• b . Precipitation
Precipitation in the permit area occurs
principally in the form of snow. Monthly precipitation
figures recorded for 1978 through 1985 are indicated on the
chart on the following page.
January usually experiences the heaviest
snowfall . July is consistently dry, although periods of
lower precipitation have been recorded in June and September .
Summer precipitation occurrence is associated with isolated
thunderstorms .
The estimated 10, 25 and 100 year/24 hour
rainfall events are :
10 year : 2 .4"
25 year : 2 . 8"
100 year : 3 . 4"
The estimates have been made from the Isopluvials maps of
the U . S . Department of Commerce' Precipitation Frequency
Atlas of the Western United States .
C . Wind
The annual prevailing winds are from the
west-southwest . During the day, downslope, down valley
winds prevail at 2 to 4 mph between the hours of 8-10 a .m.
During the afternoon, upslope, up valley winds prevail at 4-
8 mph between the hours of 2-5 p .m. (See Figure III-F-1)
